| (Un)common ground: The intersections of kink, poly and queer by Andrea Zanin and Pepper Mint Kinky, poly, queer... they're not one and the same, but they sure do overlap a lot! It's common knowledge that lots of people straddle the boundaries between these three identities and communities. Join us for a structured analysis of the issues common to all three in terms of political struggle, personal challenge and community-building. You'll come out with fresh insights and understanding to benefit your leadership work and activism. How you will benefit from this presentation: They will learn about the intersectionality of issues and experiences surrounding various forms of alternative sexuality and gain insights into the potential for coalition work around common points of political struggle, personal challenge and community-building. This session is food for the mind, and each attendee will be able to then apply their thought process to the activist work they do for greater strength and better mutual understanding. How this presentation will arouse you: Given that this year's LLC goal is to "excite existing and potential community leaders/activists and foster a greater sense of connection between and within community groups," we feel that our talk will tap directly into that thirst for inter-community connection and understanding and really get people thinking. Pepper Mint and I are dynamic presenters with a keen understanding and many years' experience within all the communities we'll be discussing; each in our own way, and each on our own coast, we stand at the crossroads of lived experience, personal identity, academic analysis and activist work in all three of these worlds. And if it helps, we're cute, too. About the presenters: Andrea Zanin is an organizer, educator and writer within the queer, polyamory and BDSM communities, and an active trans ally. She frequently speaks about alternative sexuality at universities, sex shops, community groups and conferences in Canada and the States, as well as for the media, and she blogs regularly at http://sexgeek.wordpress.com. Pepper Mint is a San Francisco organizer, activist, and social theorist in the bisexual, polyamory, and BDSM communities.
