"Whack-a-mole - Event planning without tantrums and Tears" by Ms Margaret aka KitNBoots and slave Erich

Event planning need not be a painful chore. Separating the process into phases and manageable tasks can help smooth the workload and minimize the potential for drama when unexpected problems arise (much like the little furry varmints that pop up in the arcade game, “Whack-A-Mole”).  Whether your event is large or small, this simple strategy is intended to provide a framework to reduce the stress involved in planning almost any event. Anyone can do it!

How you will benefit from this presentation:

Attendees will come to realize that it is indeed within their abilities to plan and execute a successful event. Anyone can do it!

It is our goal to demystify the event planning process and inspire brand new event planners to try their hand at producing an event (whether it be small or large).

By enthusiastically offering a few simple philosophies, formulas (such as easy-to-remember acronyms) and practical tips, we hope to "arm" event planners with the tools they will need in order to fearlessly face the challenges of producing an event and the means by which to "whack" those "moles" with confidence and good cheer.

Seasoned event planners will also be welcome and encouraged to share their own "trade secrets" with the class. During the course of the presentation we will actively solicit input from attendees belonging to different facets of our community.  For example, the producers of title contest events will have a very different perspective to offer from that of someone in the room who has experience putting together dungeon play parties or discussion group type events.

As a community we are stronger together. We are strongest when share our successes. We all have valuable things to contribute and so each of us can learn from those who have experience in producing various types of events for the different facets of our community.  Success is contagious! We hope everyone will leave this class encouraged, upbeat and ready to dive right in and produce their own event for the benefit of the community.

How this presentation will arouse you:

Basically it is our intent that attendees will be "aroused" by the encouragement, passion, humor and practical tools that we will share with them in class.  This presentation will also include arousing music at the beginning -- energetic "battle" music such as Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries," and the melee theme from Conan the Barbarian. (All the better to "whack the moles.") Our music for the "guided meditation" is soft, relaxing New Age music. At the end of the presentation, we send people out the door to the peppy refrains of the Pointer Sisters and Sister Sledge ("Jump!" "I'm So Excited!" and "We are Family.")
