| Plan for the worst: Avoiding and managing event crisis of all sizes by Rae Goodman Preparing for the unpredictable is not a contradiction in terms, it’s part of good event planning. Come learn how to avoid minor problems through contingency planning and by having a designated, trained “just in case” staff person. Find out how to develop a disaster plan for your event or group and how to effectively manage an emergency by utilizing all your resources, including your staff, to your best advantage. Plus, tips on debriefing post-crisis. How you will benefit from this presentation: Attendees will learn how to avoid minor event problems, avert crises, and handle major event emergencies. They will learn specific, concrete details of emergency preparedness and response, taught from the perspective of large-scale medical emergency response and risk management for unusual situations. Event organizers will learn how to effectively delegate small problems and prepare their staff effectively for major crises. Event volunteers will gain specific skills in planning for the unpredictable and handling unexpected or unusual assignments. This presentation will provide information on pre-event planning and on-site response to the various crises, large and small, that may occur at any leather event. About the presenter: Rae Goldman is a board associate with Folsom Street Events, co-curator for Folsom’s 25th anniversary exhibit at the GLBT Historical Society, and volunteer coordinator for IMsL. Rae makes her living as a nonprofit director and experiential educator. She rides with LOBOC and teaches for a variety of kinky organizations. |
