| Removing the sexual sadism and masochism from the DSM by Charles Moser, PhD, MD, FACP and Susan Wright The DSM classifies Sadism and Masochism as mental disorders, which has been used to discriminate against BDSM practitioners (denial of child custody, security clearances, imply a propensity to commit sexual offenses, etc.). This presentation will educate the activist on the issues, history of the DSM and these diagnoses, pertinent academic research, and will outline the plan to remove the diagnoses from the DSM. No background required, but removal will take a broad coalition of activists to accomplish. How this presentation will arouse you: Concrete goal and an important one for the Kink Community. About the presenters: Charles Moser, Ph.D., M.D. is a physician in private practice. He is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Sexual Medicine at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. He has authored or co-authored over 40 scientific papers or books. Susan has been an activist in the BDSM community since 1992: Susan directed the SM Policy Reform Project for the National Organization for Women which resulted in rescinding their anti-SM policy in 1999. Susan also coordinated the SM vs. Abuse policy statement created through LLC in 1997-1998.
