How to grow your event by Folsom Street Events a panel with Demetri Moshoyannis, Jacob Richards and others

If you produce a small leather/fetish event or are just looking to start one, find out the tricks of the trade from the infamous producers of Folsom Street Fair. Innovative strategies in the areas of marketing, promotions, fundraising, diversity/inclusion, and organizational structure and capacity building will be our focus.

Additional areas of interest will be covered, per your interests. Find out what you can do to make your small event into a huge success.

How you will benefit from this presentation:

With so many leather/fetish events looking to grow, there are many strategies to share which cover many aspects of event planning and production. Most leather events attract small crowds; however, Folsom Street Events can share how it has grown over the years, for better or for worse. Challenges and lessons learned will be discussed in the areas of marketing and promotions, fundraising, diversity and inclusion, organizational structure, and much more. Tangible approaches for how to grow or expand efforts in each one of these areas will be tackled. An open question and answer period will take place as well so that a maximum amount of information may be shared among the participants. We are hoping to engage attendees in brainstorming and information sharing as much as possible.

How this presentation will arouse you:

Our presentation aims to arouse the attendees by focusing on innovation. We will discuss which ideas work and which ideas don’t work, focusing in the areas of marketing and promotions, fundraising, diversity and inclusion, organizational structure as well as other topics. By discussing innovative aspects of event planning and production, we are hopeful that people will leave with a feeling of excitement because they will leave the presentation with a set of suggestions and ideas that they can take home with them to share with others.


About the presenters:

Moshoyannis: Originally from New York, Moshoyannis is a permanent California transplant. He brings 15 years of nonprofit management experience and 10 years of BDSM experience to Folsom Street Events. He is a third-time Executive Director, having directed two AIDS agencies, BAY Positives (SF) and Being Alive (LA).


Richards: Jacobs heads the recycling program for Folsom Street Events and serves as the VP of the Board of Directors. He has lived in the Bay Area for six years and spends time working and volunteering for queer and leather organizations. He is a first-year UC Berkeley law school student
